I love the charade! the first ones especially, but some of the later ones also. I desire one, I am just concerned that fuel economy and fun at low speeds comes at the cost of driving in a tin can that wont survived an impact with tall grass

I am also concerned about parts and if they are total pieces of crap.

I had a friend with a charade, it was the family car through 4 kids learning to drive. It was extremely durable. But yes, I suspect getting something simple like a clutch would be a total PITA in the USA

It really wouldn’t be... ordering parts from here is actually fairly cheap. I just sent a full set of Porsche 911 wheels to California. Close to 70lbs. It owuld have cost 170$ by boat, but it’s slow and it cost him 320$ by airmail. It gets there in 2 weeks usually. EMS (arrives in 4 days) would have cost around 450$. Keep in mind that’s for 4 wheels, in 2 separate packages. So a clutch is fairly cheap...

indeed it is so, the US only got one generation, I think. Conveniently takes 4x100 wheels, so my oppo labeled civic wheels would be a perfect fit :D

I attempted last year to buy a white charade of that same model, but could not get the guy to respond to emails or calls or texts.

bummer.
Why do we like these? I can’t figure it out. I think they are just weird because who the heck knows daihatsu. And I just like small simple hatchbacks especially white ones. I think I like the bumper and rear wheel area with the body that kinda drops down over the wheel. Also it is kind of a nice design rather handsome I might say for something so small and cheap. I think I also like the idea of taking a very light small underdog of a car and modifying it and making it really fun to drive. Also there’s the cargo capacity of a hatch.
Ok maybe I did know why I like them it just took some writing and thinking.

yeah. I have attempted similar self examination. I’m not sure why I desire it. I do strongly adhere to the belief that driving a slow car fast is better than a fast car slow.
